👩⚕️ Meet Dr. Bidhya Karki
Could you introduce yourself and your current specialization?
I'm Dr. Bidhya Karki, currently a resident in the Department of Dermatology at NAMS. 🌿
What are your hobbies outside of medicine?
While I don’t have very specific hobbies, when I get the time, I enjoy watching movies and listening to music.
What was your rank in the MD/MS entrance exam?
I secured an overall rank of 96, with a government rank of 4.
What’s your long-term career goal in medicine?
I aspire to be a skilled clinician, something I have dreamt of since my early days in medical school. However, I’ve recently realized the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between being a good doctor and having a fulfilling family and personal life.🌸
Why Dermatology?
What attracted you to dermatology, and what do you love about it?
Dermatology struck the right balance for me. It demands knowledge and skill, but unlike some other fields, it often involves fewer critical cases, giving me the opportunity to maintain a better work-life balance. Over time, I’m sure I will discover even more reasons to love this specialization.
Did choosing dermatology influence how you approached your studies?
Yes, knowing I was aiming for dermatology helped me organize my study schedule and put in the necessary effort. I knew I had to give it my all.
The Road to CEE Success
How did you prepare for the CEE (MD/MS) 2080?
I relied heavily on self-study and supplemented it with mock exams.
What was your study schedule like, and how did you maintain consistency?
To be honest, I didn’t follow a strict schedule since I was also working. I studied whenever I could fit it into my day.
How did you choose the best study resources for the exam? Any recommendations?
I sought guidance from seniors on which resources to focus on. For theory, First Aid, Sure Success, and Marrow notes were invaluable. For question practice, online PG mock exams and the Marrow question bank were my go-to resources. 📚
Did you prefer self-study or coaching classes, and why?
I opted for self-study due to my work commitments. I didn’t have the flexibility to attend regular coaching classes.
How important were mock tests in your preparation?
Mock tests were absolutely crucial. They gave me insight into my strengths and weaknesses, allowed me to track my progress, and helped me develop a solid strategy for the actual exam.✅
Exam Day Strategy: Staying Calm and Focused
Do you have any specific strategies that helped you stay calm during the exam?
🔑 The key to staying calm is Practice, practice, practice! Start building your exam-day strategy as soon as you begin taking mock tests. The more you practice handling exam pressure—staying calm, reading questions carefully, and avoiding silly mistakes—the more prepared you’ll be on the actual day.
How did you manage your time during the exam?
I found it helpful to divide the questions into three rounds:
First round: Answer the questions you’re confident about.
Second round: Tackle those that require a bit more thought.
Third round: Use the remaining time to attempt the more difficult ones, and decide whether it’s worth answering them.
Career vs. Studies: Can You Balance Both?
It’s definitely possible to balance both work and studies. In my case, I managed to do so while working, and it’s all about finding the right balance and staying disciplined.
Final Words of Advice
My biggest advice would be to stay consistent. Keep pushing, and never lose sight of your goal. Success in exams is about sustained effort over time.
